There are Dreamers & Doers
I’m reminded of a quote that went something like “There are dreamers and there are doers but what we need are the dreamers that do”.
It’s been a while since my last blog, so I’ve clearly not been a doer in that Department! New Year new start and all that!
Now, I’m a dreamer (and a talker!) but I’m also a big believer in the doing. So I wanted to use this New Year Blog as a shout out for The World Voices Organisation (WOVO) - a non-profit, member-driven international organisation for voice actors who are all about both the dreaming AND the doing.
In the few years I’ve worked in the Voiceover industry even I’ve seen a sea change in so many areas of the work. So for those seasoned pro’s that have been at the forefront of WOVO (you know who you are!) I can only imagine what they’ve experienced along the way.
With technology working it’s magic we have a plethora of avenues to air, share and despair with our peers over the latest topic, and oh my people do! But how many go on to put their thoughts and ideas into action?
I’m honoured to have been approved as a professional member of WOVO that is doing just that. With a remarkably talented Executive Board as the driving force, along with our now 500+ strong members, WOVO is on a mission to inform and educate the VO community and other relevant business professionals. The main aim is to highlight and share best practice, promote high standards of ethical conduct and professional expertise, educate ‘all’ about acceptable industry rates, support the old and mentor the new….the list goes on. And I’ve no doubt many friendships have and will be made and nurtured along the way.
I initially watched from afar as the mainly US led (but not exclusive to) group of talented VO individuals stepped up a gear to put their words into action. 2015 saw the development of Mentor programmes, Voiceover.biz (an online directory of proven VO pros), technical certification, Twitter Forums, Roundtable rates discussions……again, the list goes on.
If there’s not a better example of Dreamers and Doers in one place I don’t know what is and that in short was the draw for me to be a part of it.
If you’re a Voiceover artist and you haven’t checked it out, be a doer, and at least go and look at the site World-Voices.org
If you’re connected to the Voiceover industry in any way it’s always worth a peep too and particularly if you’re in the game of hiring Voice actors then take yourself along to Voiceover.biz
I have no doubt that WOVO will take 2016 by storm and will soon be celebrating 1000+ members worldwide. What do I say to that?
Bring it on!
