I hope you’ve started it with recharged batteries and renewed enthusiasm to help you reach the various targets you’ve set yourself. It’s an annual ritual for many of us isn’t it? We reflect on the past year and take from it what we can to kickstart what we hope will be an even better year ahead.
I’m in that camp for sure and, like the masses, use New Year as an opportunity to revisit my business targets, refocus on how I can energise myself that little bit more to help reach those preset goals. As much as we hate to admit it we need that push every once in a while don’t we? It’s simply a reality for most that our endless list of tasks sometimes leave us lacking in energy and focus. Not to mention the many questions we ask ourselves about why and how we might tackle something. Those trickier challenges inevitably put to the bottom of the pile!
Once a week I help out in my daughter's school supporting children whose first language isn’t English. I help them with their phonic sounds, listen to them read, enjoy chatting about whatever it is they want to share with me this week. Half an hour, that’s all it is. And yet in that half an hour I see their passion, their thirst to learn, their sense of fun and willingness to share their journey with me. They have a mountain to climb but not once have they said to me it’s too high, too steep, too big a challenge for them. They embrace my support with an open mind and welcome the small amount of time we have each week to get them one step closer to one of their many goals.
Every week I come away in awe of their spirit, enthusiasm and unquestioning eagerness to climb their mountain. Unbeknown to them I’m sure, I feel I’ve had my half hour lesson on how to simply get on with the job in hand - no questions asked.
Thank you boys for your inspiration. You are my weekly reminder to just get on with it and climb that mountain, we've got this!
